INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — As an Indiana native, Eric Shanks can't remember exactly when the rite of passage began of traveling to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His firstIndianapolis 500memory is of the 1985 race, Danny Sullivan's "Spin and Win" 1985 victory, when Shanks was around 14 and had fully embraced the way his home state played such a role in American culture. "I think everybody takes pride in there being a spotlight on this part of the country," Shanks said. "The Pacers are only in the playoffs when they are in the playoffs, the Colts aren't always in. But this is a guarantee every year." When he became CEO of Fox Sports in 2010, Shanks had a wish list of events he wanted for the network. Always at the top was the Indianapolis 500, a property Fox Sportsfinally landed this year. The network is in its first year of a new broadcast deal with IndyCar and on Sunday televises its first Indy 500. Shanks from the start has vowed the production will be the biggest of the year for Fox Sports — a lofty promise for a network that also carries the Super Bowl and the World Series, among other major sporting events. "We are going to blow the doors off of Indy. We're going to bring everything that Fox has to bear," he said. He's been relentless in pursuing his promise and has spent the first five IndyCar races of the year working out early-season glitches that ranged from an unstable graphics package, issues delivering timing and scoring, a mid-race loss of transmission, and enough bumps to drive Shanks nuts as he strives for a perfect production. The work has gone on at the same time Fox Sports televised the first 16 races of the NASCAR season, a run that culminated last Sunday night with the All-Star race. Only four of the NASCAR races were on Fox, and even with the rain-effected season-opening Daytona 500, that quartet averaged 4,986,000 viewers. Fox promised IndyCar its entire 17-race slate will be aired on broadcast — including both days of last weekend's qualifying — but the numbers have been sporadic and unable to keep pace with NASCAR. The IndyCar ratings don't bother Shanks. "I think you just want to be constantly showing growth in a lot of areas," he said. "You want to be showing growth in attendance. I'm happy to hear merchandise sales are up — you've got new sponsors coming in — you just want to show growth." Fox Sports last week made several changes to races later this season (mainly start times) to ensure IndyCar and NASCAR do not go directly head-to-hear, something that happened several times earlier this year when the network juggled both racing series. But Shanks told The Associated Press he is not considering moving IndyCar off of Fox to Fox Sports or another property if the ratings don't improve over the next few weeks. Instead, his focus is on ensuring the glitches through the first five races don't happen during the 109th running of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" or the rest of the season. "In each race, it actually has been something different," Shanks said. "You fix one thing and then there's something else to fix. There's a lot of different systems talking to each other and we're on the receiving end of a lot of it. So we're figure it out and we're trying to do more." New innovation Fox Sports is compensating through new innovation, including the image of a "ghost car" graphic used in qualifying that showed how a car making a run tracked against the current leader. And he's bringing in major talent for Sunday, including Tom Brady for the ceremonial "Fastest Seat in Sports" car, which will be driven by Jimmie Johnson; Michael Strahan, Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart and Super Bowl-winning tight end Rob Gronkowski as the Snake Pit grand marshal. Fox Sports has a ton of material to work with, includinga race-consuming cheating scandalinvolving Team Penske, the marquee team in IndyCar. It involves two-time defending winner Josef Newgarden, who is seeking to become the first driver in history to win three consecutive 500s. The first Israeli is in the field as Robert Shwartzman stunned 33 other drivers by becoming the first rookie since 1983 to win the pole. Kyle Larson is attempting to complete the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 for 1,100-miles of racing in one day. Two-time reigning series champion Alex Palou, who has won four of the first five races this season, is trying to finally add the 500 to his resume and Pato O'Ward, the most popular driver in the series, is trying to bounce back from last year's heartbreaking last-lap defeat. Shanks has used crossover since the start of the year — Fox produced three movie-production-quality commercials to introduce three IndyCar stars and all aired during the Super Bowl, one with a Brady cameo — and is using most of its network programming to promote Sunday's race. Gambling Added to Indy 500 He also achieved a goal in adding a gambling element to Sunday, something he's wanted to do for months. "I really want to turn the Indy 500 into more of a Kentucky Derby day from a wagering standpoint. It's hard to understand how to wager on motorsports," he said. "On Kentucky Derby day, even if you don't know anything about horse racing, you put down an exacta or a trifecta, you got win, place, show. How can we figure out how to get that type of broad attention around an event that honestly kind of feels a lot like horse racing that day?" The solution was a partnership with DraftKings, which will have 20 or more trifectas that people can pick from. Fox Sports analyst James Hinchcliffe will pick one trifecta that will be promoted by Fox. "I think that's element to this event, and motorsports in general, that if we can start to kind of like add that layer of interest for people, I think it can only be helpful to viewership," Shanks said." ___ AP auto racing:https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

Joy Behar recalls accidentally reintroducing herself to Steven Spielberg after they'd previously met: 'Did not remember him'New Foto - Joy Behar recalls accidentally reintroducing herself to Steven Spielberg after they'd previously met: 'Did not remember him'

Dia Dipasupil/Getty; Jerod Harris/Getty Steven Spielberg?Joy Behardoesn't know him. During Tuesday's episode ofThe View, the 70-year-old comedian recalled an incident in which she reintroduced herself to theJurassic Parkfilmmaker only for him to notify her that they'd previously met on one of her television programs. The awkward anecdote came up as part of a conversation about howDakota Johnsoncompletely forgot the first timethat she'd met herMaterialistscostar,Pedro Pascal. "I don't even remember who's been on this show," Behar remarked, before turning toSara Hainesand jokingly adding, "Who are you again?" ABC That extends to the show's guests, too. "I was at this party and I was talking to people and I said, 'It's so nice to meet you. Very nice to meet you," Behar recalled. "And the person said to me, 'I was on your show.' I said, 'Oh, really? You were?' He said, 'Yes.' You know who it was? Steven Spielberg." Her cohostsSunny Hostin,Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Haines — the latter of whom appeared to be fixing a problem with Behar's mic pack — all let out audible gasps over the casual name drop. "Joy, that story was good until that part," Haines remarked, while Hostin lightly scolded her with a little: "Joy Behar!" Behar remained unfazed throughout her retelling, adding, "I did not remember him." And, honestly, she has a reasonable explanation for why she didn't make the connection. "Here's the thing, when you're on the show, you don't remember," Behar explained. "When you're watching the show, you remember it better. We're in the moment — I don't remember half the people who have been here." While Behar did not reveal which of her many talk show programs was the one she met Spielberg on, the director previously visitedThe Viewin 2016 for a conversation with Goldberg about their 1985 film,The Color Purple. Haines admitted that she'd had a similar issue happen recently. "Remember when I got obsessed with a new show — I won't mention it — but I said, 'Oh, I've never seen this before.' And they're like, 'It's 10 years old. They were on our show.' I was like, 'I definitely was not in that segment,'" she said. "He pulls it up and for some reason you guys [Behar andWhoopi Goldberg] were out and I was moderating it!" Behar responded, "You're in the moment, that's why. ABC Goldberg wrapped up the segment by reminding viewers that to err is very much human — even if it means you sometimes forget ever meeting a three-time Academy Award winner. "You can't do everything for everybody all the time. Sometimes stuff just goes wrong. It doesn't always work," the moderator said. "But it's okay! It doesn't mean you don't care, it doesn't mean that you're not trying to do it right, nobody wants to make mistakes. But, you know, we would be Jesus if we didn't!" The Viewairs weekdays on ABC. The Royal Foundation announced a collaboration with Street Soccer Scotland to build on efforts to revitalize Leith Community Centre The Prince of Wales is a dedicated soccer fan and recently attended games with his eldest son, Prince George Prince Williamis using his favorite game to help highlight how it can help foster improved well-being and build community. The Prince of Wales, 42, made an unannounced trip to Leith, in Scotland, on May 21 to see a local soccer project that is inspiring better health and improving social connections. Prince William — who goes by thetitle of Duke of Rothesay while in Scotland— visited Leith Community Centre, on the eastern edge of Edinburgh, to see how street soccer is helping to transform lives. As he did, theRoyal Foundation— the organization that oversees the charitable work from him and his wife,Kate Middleton— revealed their latest commitment to local communities by announcing a collaboration with Street Soccer Scotland to build on efforts to revitalize Leith Community Centre. The foundation is also working closely with the charity as it convenes local partners, including Leith Community Centre and YMCA Edinburgh, to create "Leith United." A key aim is to build on existing sports-based initiatives at the community center that use the power of soccer to support people experiencing issues such as poor mental health, addiction, homelessness and isolation as well as foster a sense of belonging in the Leith community, Prince William's office says. Chris Jackson/Getty It is the latest in the rollout of initiatives across the U.K. that aim to have a positive lasting impact following a royal visit. And it came asTimemagazinenamed William and Kate, 43,as one of their Time100 Philanthropists for 2025. Saying their "modern royal agenda" showed they were "less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues." As Prince William began the visit on May 21, he met Street Soccer Scotland founder and CEO, David Duke (whom the prince knows through his Homewards project to combat homelessness) to hear how they aim to revitalize Leith Community Centre. Talking to Street Soccer coaches and players, some of whom have experienced homelessness, William was told how the new partnership will benefit socially disadvantaged adults and young people in the Leith area. Street Soccer Scotland started life in Leith in 2009 and has been delivering free training and personal development programs for socially disadvantaged adults and young people since then. Chris Jackson/Getty Soccer is a favorite sport for Prince William, who not only has a ceremonial role with the Football Association but alsoloves to watch Premier Leagueteam Aston Villa. In recent months, as the season neared its climax, he has taken his elder son,Prince George, 11, to several matches too — and both gotseriously animatedin the stands. In fact, Prince William was presented with a drawing dedicated to the team during his visit on Wednesday. After being shown around the Leith community center, Prince William took part in a discussion with Edinburgh YMCA's Youth Forum, hosted by CEO Mike Kerracher, to get some idea from the young people from across Leith talk about their aspirations for both the center and ideas for future projects. Natalie Portman and John Krasinski embark on a globe-trotting adventure in 'Fountain of Youth'New Foto - Natalie Portman and John Krasinski embark on a globe-trotting adventure in 'Fountain of Youth'

The spirit of Indiana Jones is baked into the essence of the new movie "Fountain of Youth." This lighthearted, globe-trotting heist from Guy Ritchie, debuting on AppleTV+ on Friday, starsNatalie PortmanandJohn Krasinskias estranged siblings attempting to piece together historical facts in hopes of finding the mythical spring. The quest takes them to far-flung places from Vienna to the pyramids, as they try to evade capture by the authorities and a shadowy operation intent on stopping the search. "I've been looking to watch this movie for years," Krasinski said in an interview with The Associated Press. "This is the movie I pretended to be in when I was a kid. This is what got me into the business." The film also stars Domnhall Gleeson as the wealthy businessman funding the operation and Eiza González as one of the protectors of the Fountain of Youth. "Guy Ritchiegets to work with some of the best cast in the world," said González, who has now worked with him three times. "The biggest gift Guy has given me, besides the privilege of working with him, is working with them." Gleeson, a newcomer to the world of Ritchie, was pretty sure that it was going to be as enjoyable as it looked. And he got a vote of confidence from his director. "Guy basically said, if you're not having fun, then this is not going to work and so the idea is to turn up and have fun," Gleeson said. Something for the whole family There were a lot of things about "Fountain of Youth" that piqued Portman's interest. The chance to work with Ritchie, Krasinski, and the rest of the cast, as well as the travel, but it also felt like something she could share with her own son and daughter. "It's so rare to get to make a movie that has this scale and this scope of adventure that you can watch with your kids," Portman said. "I'm always looking for something that I can enjoy with my children." Her character, Charlotte, is an art historian who had an adventuresome childhood with her explorer father and brother Luke (Krasinski) but has since settled for a more stable life. We meet her amid a contentious divorce and custody battle over her 12-year-old son, and she's not exactly pleased when Luke steals a piece of art from her gallery and attempts to recruit her for the bigger mission. But soon, she's in scuba gear hunting down a lost Rembrandt in the wreckage of the RMS Lusitania. "I think that something we search for as adults is how to regain that youthful spirit, how to hold onto that youthful energy and freedom and wildness, even when having to move into some adult responsibilities," said Portman, who, like her character isrecently divorced. "Maybe that can make you a better parent to have a little bit of that glint in your eye." She and Krasinski, working together for the first time, fell into the sibling dynamics easily. "These movies sort of live and die with the relationships," Krasinski said. "The sibling thing really only works if you're having genuine fun with the person and it can come off screen. And I laughed with her every single day. She's so funny." A historic shoot at the pyramids Globe-trotting films aren't just travelogues for the audience, but their own sort of adventure for the cast and crew. This production earned their miles, skipping between the streets of Bangkok and Liverpool, the Austrian National Library in Vienna and Cairo to film at the great pyramids — where "Fountain of Youth" became the first film of this scale to be granted the privilege to shoot action sequences there. "It was really a pinch me kind of moment to be like, oh, those are the pyramids and we're just hanging out here and walking into them and filming in them," Portman said. The big first was landing a Boeing Chinook CH47 helicopter in front of the Giza Plateau, and blowing up a jeep, all while the site remained open to tourists. "With any luck, we didn't blow it for Hollywood going back there for somebody else," Krasinski said. "But if we did, at least we got to do it." Most of the big action moments "inside" the pyramids were saved for the safety of sets constructed at London's Leavesden Studio, where they also built the wreckage of the Lusitania in a water tank so big that it took two weeks to fill. An epic made for the small screen "Fountain of Youth" might seem like the type of movie that would be a natural fit for the big screen: A big budget, global adventure with major stars and sweeping vistas. While Krasinski champions movie theaters — at the time of the interview, he had a ticket to see"Sinners" on IMAXthe next day — he's also not feeling bittersweet that this one won't be playing at the multiplex. They all came into "Fountain of Youth" knowing that it was a streaming-first endeavor. "This was always going to be a streaming movie, so I didn't really think about it in terms of ... Would people want to see it in theaters because it was just one of those things," Krasinski said. "And I think that's the new reality. There are definitely movies that are being made for streaming, and there are movies being made for theatrical." He added: "It all depends on what the filmmaker's intent was, what the studio's intent and I think as long as those rules are laid out clearly in the beginning, I'm down for either one." ___ For more coverage of films, visit:https://apnews.com/hub/movies
