Opening up about their experience coping with and recovering from season 1 ofThe Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, the couple appeared onThe Viall Filesto discuss how their relationship has changed as they've navigated season 2. Therapy has been a major source of growth for the couple, with them trying unconventional methods as well as traditional couples therapy. They say both routes have given them insights into themselves that they didn't previously have. "When I get really worked up, I can really spiral — for example, like the Chippendale's thing. In my mind, it was a much worse crazy scenario," Zac shared. "Like, I had been told these different things from other cast members, so I was expecting the absolute worst. And instead of, like, taking a deep breath and gathering the facts, I just start going crazy and saying things I didn't mean and doing things I didn't mean." "And there's a lot of things that our therapists have taught us, like, 'Why do you react that way?' But one simple thing that I do now is, I have anxiety medication," Zac revealed. "And so if I ever find myself in a place where I'm really frustrated with Jen, like last night, we got in a big argument. I'm like, 'Okay. I'm gonna go take my medication. I'm gonna go take 20 minutes by myself, and I'm gonna sit here and think about how I wanna show up and how I wanna talk to my wife.' " Zac says that he's now trying to come from a place where he's "regulated, versus before where it'd be screaming and yelling and pointing fingers, which goes nowhere, which people saw season 1." "Then we've just done a lot of other things that I feel like in the Mormon church were kind of considered taboo. One day we decided to go to a spiritual healer and we took a weed gummy together," he revealed. "Was it a weed gummy?" Jen asked him. "Yeah, THC, weed gummy. We decided like, 'Maybe this will, like, help us open up,' and I had never drank, smoked, done anything in my life, but this was right after season 1 came out, and I was in, we were both in a really dark place. And I'm like, 'We need to change things up.' Weed was legal in Arizona, where we were living —" "We were smoking weed, doing ketamine, going crazy!" Jen joked, referring to the couple's ketamine therapy session shown in the first episode of season 2. "So we went to the spiritual healer and, like, had this great experience. And then, well, that was kind of a crazy experience, to be honest," Zac continued. "Since we were both so naive, we took like ten times the dose we were actually supposed to take, and we were in a different universe and didn't know where we were." Jen laughed, "Never again, oh my God." "And this spiritual healer, I was confessing all my life's sins and, like, telling her how much I loved Jen," Zac said. "While I'm like, 'I feel like I'm dying, I need to go to the hospital,' " Jen added. "Jen passed out... Jen asked to call 911. She thought she was dying," Zac continued. "We later found out you can't overdose on weed, but anyway." When the couple talked about ketamine therapy on this season ofThe Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Jen applauded Zac's openness to trying different methods of healing. "Zac and I will definitely have a lot to work on, and ketamine therapy is supposed to reset a lot of past traumas or habits you've created," Jen explained in a confessional, later adding, "Ketamine is a pure example of how much he's willing to do to show up for the relationship." In a confessional, Zac said, "Jen and I do love each other, and we are a team. It's easy when you get back to the root of why you love each other, being able to relive some of those memories and think about some of those times I've had with Jen... yeah, I just kind of realized just how special she is to me."
