A new biography about a famous rock star is coming out in September, but an early report about the contents says that the book alleges the rock star had a secret daughter he knew about for the final 15 years of his life. Freddie Mercury, frontman for the groupQueen, is the subject of a new biography from authorLesley-Ann JonescalledLove, Freddie. Inside, there is a handwritten letter alleging that Mercury had an affair with the wife of one of his friends in 1976, and she later gave birth to their daughter, according to The Daily Mail. The secret was reportedly kept quiet by Mercury and his family — his fiancée Mary Austin, to whom he was engaged prior to coming out as gay, and his parents and sister were the only ones who knew outside of Mercury and, of course, the child's mother and stepfather. Identified only as "B" in the biography to protect her identity, the daughter is a grown woman with kids of her own, practicing medicine in Europe. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 "Freddie Mercury was and is my father," B claims in the letter. "We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life." "He adored me and was devoted to me," she continues. "The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people's standards, unusual and even outrageous. That should come as no surprise. It never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me. He cherished me like a treasured possession." In the letter, B says that she had a good relationship with her biological father and that he visited her often and called her all the time. What made Jones believe the woman's story was that she had 17 journals full of Mercury's writings that he gave to B before he died in 1991. Jones told The Daily Mail, "My instinct was to doubt everything, but I am absolutely sure she is not a fantasist…No one could have faked all this." "In my experience of fantasists, and I've met a few, they seek instant gratification, publicity and reward," Jones added, "She has never asked for money. She does not want recognition. Both Freddie and her stepfather left her extremely wealthy. She was not provided for through Freddie's will, but by a private, legal arrangement, so no one will find her mentioned there." B was raised by her mother and stepfather, but she said Mercury had his own room at their house and she knew from a very young age that he was her biological father. "He was a hands-on, devoted dad," Jones told The Daily Mail. Jones does have some authority in her field to be a believable source. The British author has written biographies aboutPaul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, John Lennon, David Bowie, Naomi CampbellandKylie Minogue. Jones has also written several previous books about Mercury. The daughter told Jones that her mother died "years ago" and that she wishes to maintain her privacy, writing in another letter in the book, "The life I live with my husband and our family in another country is intensely private. We want things to stay that way. We cherish our peaceful and anonymous life, and we want nothing to disturb it. Nobody needs to know who I am."
