Gerardo Mora/Getty for Universal Orlando Resort Jojo Siwa spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her time onCelebrity Big Brother UKwhile at the Epic Universe Celestial Carpet Opening Celebration event in Orlando TheDance Momsalum went against the advice of her loved ones by going on the reality show The 22-year-old told PEOPLE she's "in such a great place" after being romantically liked to CBB costar Chris Hughes JoJo Siwasays going onCelebrity Big Brother UKis not a decision that anyone close to her would have advised. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Epic Universe Celestial Carpet Opening Celebration event in Orlando, the 22-year-old admitted she went against her team's wishes and followed her gut by going on the reality television show. "It's funny because going into the experience, nobody on my team wanted me to do it," Siwa tells PEOPLE, adding, "and everyone tried to discourage me from doing it." Gerardo Mora/Getty for Universal Orlando Resort "But for some reason, I was really set on doing it," she says. TheDance Momsalum wrapped season 24 of the long-running series in late April. "Right before I went in, the last thing I told my mom is, I said, 'Mom, I think this is going to be the best thing I've ever done in my life.' And I wasn't speaking about my career, I was speaking about my life and I think I was accurate on that," Siwa explains. During her time on the show, the "Karma" singer, whocame out as LGBTQ in 2021, had a close friendship with her housemate,Love Islandalum Chris Hughes. In onelivestream, sheclarified her sexuality, saying she was now queer rather than a lesbian. "I'm switching letters!" Siwa told Danny Beard, her costar and formerRuPaul's Drag Race UKstar, referring to the letters in LGBTQ. "I've dropped the L and I've gone to the Q baby! That's what I love about sexuality." Shutterstock for Big Brother After the season ended, she and Hughes, 32, did an April 28 joint interview with the U.K. show,This Morning, where Siwa put an end to any romance rumors between the pair. "He's a gorgeous boy … Look, he's a great guy.It is platonic, we have a lot of fun together," she said at the time. "Life is life, and I don't know any future of anything. But, I'm really grateful for our dynamic that we have in our bond that we have, and whatever life does, life will do." However, their relationship has seemed to have bloomed into something more. Siwa also shared anInstagram carouselthe day prior where Hughes made several cameos, including the cover photo of her smiling as they sat close together. In the picture, she rested one leg on his as he affectionately held onto her. Her head was also resting on his shoulder.
